de Chalains® was established in 1998, borne out of a necessity to anticipate and cater for corporate needs by providing an integrated, focused and personal range of services incorporating all facets of Intellectual Property (IP) management. de Chalains® handles IP matters only. We are a micro-boutique IP firm occupying a "niche within a niche" and are passionate about protecting and enforcing your most valuable assets - namely your IP rights in order to maximize the profitability of your business.

Most of the firms professional staff were previously part of a large and well respected IP law firm in South Africa and although young, the firm is well established and has come of age due largely to the expertise and dedication of our professional team which has in excess of 130 years combined and extensive experience in different facets of IP law and, in particular, trade marks. Being lean, nimble and dynamic presupposes a degree of flexibility and agility exemplified by our total commitment to personal services tailored to suit our clients' specific needs. Since inception the firm has gained a formidable reputation for accurate and swift service. Our turn-around time in respect of providing search opinions on the registrability of trade marks remains unsurpassed.

Our firm's pro-active range of niche services, differentiates us from other South African intellectual property firms which has enabled us to occupy a unique and often neglected void in this field. First and foremost our firm focuses on the procurement, registration and maintenance of meaningful intellectual property rights on our clients behalf. An essential tool which has proved invaluable since the firm's inception, is our trade mark management system. Examples of printouts from our system are available on request to illustrate the flexibility of this aid, from specific user friendly portfolios in alphabetical order by trade mark to more expansive printouts, including devices, full details of specifications of goods and/or services, status, etc.

An in-built diary system, alerting us to key dates like renewals, opposition deadlines, etc., well in advance, is another crucial facet of our trade mark management program which would enable us to effectively manage and monitor your trade mark portfolio without bombarding you with a deluge of correspondence.
